Every Moment is A Thing of Beauty

Maybe it's just parenthood, maybe it's being told you have a finite time to live (but not a TRUE expiration date, just the threat of one), maybe it's having a kid later in life.. no matter.. but I try to find the beauty in each moment of my life.
Creating things, events, space for adventure, all those things are priorities to me.
Call me crazy, but the best times are the ones where we just are together with family or friends, doing something silly, laughing and enjoying the moment.

The beautiful moments.. they pass so quickly it is easy to lose sight of what is really valuable.

Here is a glimpse into the glorious yet so simple pleasures that make my heart sing and life worth living, a picture essay of the weekend.

Friday Night: Bollywood!

Belle Sam's bestest pal came over after school and joined the Indian feast/movie night with our family. On the menu? Samosas with cilantro chutney, garlic nann, green beans toran, mushrooms, raita, chia tea and of course, a green salad for me.

Here is a music video from the movie we watched.. totally fun and goofy.. and three hours LONG!

Malcolm was not impressed by
the Blue Aliens in the movie..
Belle and Sam loved dressing
up and gathered flower petals
for the table..

Bollywood style dinner was a hit! A good time was had by all, and the movie was a real funny, strange mix that had us laughing quite a bit!

Saturday: Pumpkin Patch and The Great Pumpkin(s)

Our good friends the Hull Family offered to drive us all they way to Riley's Farm in Oak Glen for some old fashioned Pumpkin patch picking.

Thing 1 and Sam got along well and Thing 2  read Sam's 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' happily. Ahh, peace in a car for over an hour, it's  every parents dream! My friend Kimberly and I talked crafts and PTA .. btw she is a Master Knitter, go see her wares on Esty HERE!
Quick, before she is sold out!
We will be here when you get back....
David, Thing 2, Thing 1 and Sam

He Got One!

A great time was had by all, even with a runaway pumpkin or two..we did pretty darn good.

Thanks Hull Family, We had a Great time!

Sunday: Rockin' The Sushi Bar

After the usual visit to The Garden aka the farmers market, Sam tried her hand at some mean guitar licks.
She just looks innocent...

Later we headed off to the beach to the Sushi Gallery. My brother in law Mat is a sushi chef there.

Sam and Dad on the Pier

It was a gorgeous afternoon, light breeze, sunny and lots of folks walking around.

Off to Sushi Gallery!

Mat made me this veggie roll, it is called Purple Hill. I made short work of it, delish!

Warner opted for a mammoth thing called a Super Crunchy...

Sam, Uncle Mat and Warner
Thanks Mat!

Sam Loved the Crazy cool Bathroom

That's My Girl!

Night was falling.. we walked down to the ocean.. a gorgeous sunset awaited...

and we were headed home again..
Malcolm was so glad to see  us!

Wunderful posting. Very nice pictures of Sam. I often read your blog, found interesting sites about raw food.
Thats why have a Blog about happy moments too- you look at the moments more attentive if you post about them. Last posting was about our first trip to United States- San Francisco was our first stay we had a very fine time and we visited the farmers market and Juicy Juice.
Best wishes from Sunny (Germany)

My other blog "Gl├╝ckliche Momente" is in german too and meens "happy moments".
The same thoughts about living every moment full I had after my diagnosis.

I want a family just like yours one day!! You had Sam later in life? I remember you telling me that, but no one would ever know. Tell me again (only if u don't mind :) so I know I don't have to worry about social conventions since I'm 30 w/no kids and no husband. And p.s. I am happy about that, but I still worry that one day I'll regret doing things later than everyone else.
You are the best example of how health and happiness is all you need. You have it all!
Love you!

Lauren, sweet thing, 30 is so young! I had Sam just a few weeks shy of turning 42. Now I will tell you that we went through 3 miscarriages and 4 hard years to get our gorgeous girl, all worth every moment! Make your intention, only date those who seem like hubby material, don't mess around with "low level, just ok for now" types. I wrote down all the things I wanted in life. Thanks to Warner, they have all come true. Now if I can just kick this pesky leukemia to the curb I will have it made! Kidding, I have a great life even living with the little c.
Much love to you

Thanks 3rd Ma!! I love you! I feel like I've started to stop freaking out as much about my age since hitting 30, but I know everyone else around me is probably going to worry that I will be alone 4ever. I'm not worried about it anymore. I like where I'm at right now and I'm not in a hurry. I really believe with good intentions, being healthy and happy and it will all work out.

your pesky leukemia is just a pest, but you're way more than that little pest. You're my total inspiration! :) Your little Sam, Jazz, Warner, and Malcolm are soooo lucky to have you! I put your hubby before the dog. ;)

I cherish every special moment, too. It is the best part of being a mom.

Love the Bollywood night. It looks like so much fun.

So you've got a guitarist in the family. Matthew is already trying to teach Hayden. She's only 2 months, but she loves to hear the sound come out when her hand passes over the strings.
